When creating her 2024 prize-winning exhibition ‘Something Moves’, artist Caroline Corbasson drew inspiration from nature, creating a series of oil paintings, drawings, videos, photographs and poetry examining the wind and sky.
Her oil paintings are particularly introspective. Dripping blue ink onto canvases, layer by layer, Caroline built each oil painting gradually, intensifying the piece with stretched oil paint. Luminescent strokes evoke a breath of air, while lines, a shade darker than the background, form curves. The outlines of these concentric circles evoke the eye of a cyclone illuminated by the light, with the wind seeming to sweep across the sky.
