Carlos Morera could never have predicted the headwinds that his business would incur in 2025. A week into the new year, the landscape design principal at LA-based AD100 firm @geoponika_ watched in misery as parts of his city were reduced to rubble. Then, come springtime, increases in import tariffs induced a sense of uncertainty and anxiety across industries. As of this month, increased ICE raids have rocked his practice, says Morera, whose firm works closely with immigrant installers, maintenance teams, and plant growers. “For any business owner, losing half of your staff with a decade of expertise and having to retrain a new generation of green workers is a devastating prospect,” he shares in an op-ed for AD PRO. As someone who works in construction with many many people who have immigrated to this country LEGALLY- I take issue with this article. It shocks me when I’m hearing people say “well who will cut the grass or frame the houses or clean the toilets” Um hello, these are people. Why are you describing them as servants. Being illegally in this country is a huge risk. Not to the employer but to the actual worker. Advocating they should stay and we can’t get by without their cheap labor is a gross argument to me. Insert the word “black” in the same argument and it harkens back to sentiments of slavery times.

As a legal immigrant I am offended by this post.

Pay better, get better legal help.

I can’t believe you actually posted this. I don’t feel bad whatsoever. The system is broken for everyone involved. When it’s your bottom line or you’re “inconvenienced” then it’s an issue.

How much do you pay them compared to American workers in the same field? Because if it's less, then you're exploiting their labor

Yikes. Don’t love this post. This quote is allll about the business owner, who is probably a millionaire. Having to retrain a new generation of workers? What about the people, their families, their whole lives upturned?

are you serious right now?

Wow…this did not hit how they were expecting. So out of touch!

So this business likes exploiting people from other countries for cheap slave labor? Got it.

There used to be a thing called migrant workers. They came here legally, worked and went home. Why is that a problem?
9天前
So how much do you pay them?

AD... going down ⬇️... this post didn't work as expected, right? 😂
