What is it about the American summer? It’s not just the heat or the sunburned shoulders: it’s the ritual. The swimming pool, chlorinated and echoing with cannonballs and Marco Polo, becomes the center of the universe. The beach is a pilgrimage, where families lug coolers and umbrellas across hot sand like they’re crossing the Sahara, just to sit and watch the Atlantic churn. The boardwalk smells like fried dough, salt air, and sunscreen, three notes that instantly punch you in the chest with nostalgia. Somewhere between the plastic souvenir shops and a melting scoop of rocky road, you remember exactly what it felt like to be ten years old and free. Then there are the nights. Those cool summer nights that sneak up on you after the scorched daylight fades, when the air finally breathes again. You’re on a back porch, maybe barefoot, maybe nursing a light beer or a cigar, talking shit with your friends while classic rock hums from a Bluetooth speaker that’s seen better days. Maybe there was golf earlier. Maybe there’ll be golf tomorrow. It doesn’t matter. Because this, this is America at its most romantic, when the country forgets its problems for a second and just lives. Burgers on the grill, fireflies in the trees, the low thump of a distant fireworks test run. The American summer is a mood, a memory, and a myth we chase every year like it’s still waiting for us just around the corner. 🎨 by @retrowaviest & @clubretroscapes Posters and prints available in bio.
