Edison Chen is proud to officially announce “CAFEAO”, a new art-and-design-themed café and conceptual retail venture, opening its first location in Taipei on March 25, 2025. Conceptualized by Edison and his longtime friend and CAFEAO co-founder Sky Gellatly @skygellatly , the café’s name combines the word “café’ with the word “ao”—the Japanese word for “blue”. The founding duo’s shared sensibilities around equilibrium, rest, and harmony are represented in @cafeao_tw in both form and function. As a project centered on the concept of “blue sky thinking”, CAFEAO’s mission is to share select art, food, and fashion from Edison and Sky’s most-cherished friends and collaborators from their journeys around the world. CAFEAO’s immersive retail experience balances a curated display of the diverse contemporary art and book collection of Edison Chen, with an environment of blue wall-to-wall gradation—a play on Sky’s name. The cafe’s soft wood floors, mirrored by simulated natural light ceiling panels, function to evoke harmony and horizon in the café. According to Chen, “the overall design of CAFEAO is based on blue, which brings people stability, releases anxiety, and tense nerves. Stepping into the store is like looking up at the sky or staring at the ocean—entering a creative world full of art and design.” Designer Xun Zuo and Art Director Jefri Schmidt from ICNCLST drove the technical development and environmental design of CAFEAO. Grounded in Edison and Sky’s shared love for cultural exchange and collaboration, CAFEAO will feature high-fidelity coffee, tea, and pastries, as well as a dynamic program of art, fashion, homeware, and food collaborations. To celebrate the launch of the café, CAFEAO commissioned VANDYTHEPINK, Kuumba, Dr. Woo, Peacock’s Coffee, Modernica, andSons, and Noms for special collaborations—as well as USM for custom cabinetry. As the first café that Edison has ever opened, he has a wide range of expectations for CAFEAO. “Whether you are a fashion fan, an art lover, or just want a good cup of coffee, CAFEAO will meet all your expectations—and become a new landmark in Taipei.”
