I remember the day I saw my first Studio Ghibli animation. It was a rainy, cold day, and as a child living with my grandmother, I went to the cinema alone. I didn’t know what will happen…. But the storytelling, the art style, and the music—it was a beautiful, magical fairytale that rocked my world to the core. After watching it, I cried hard all the way back home, even though the story had a happy ending. For me, it felt like the end of something I wished would never conclude. It was as if I entered the cinema as one person and emerged as another. Receiving this award from Junichi Nishioka is a great honor for me. My love for Hayao Miyazaki artworks will never end.
