🌳 “The Tree of Knowledge” is a new sculpture by the American artist Beeple (swipe to discover this contemporary medium). The artwork is generative, meaning that it unfolds in real-time, and shares contemporary news feeds, global temperatures, etc. The gleaming aluminum box depicts a hybrid tree that shape shifts and invites viewers to become participants. The artwork was displayed at museum @pinacotecaagnelli last month and is now installed near the New York Public Library. Beeple has generously donated proceeds from the sale of this artwork to support large-scale land conservation and food justice. Overall, the sculpture will support the creation of 11 new permanent protected areas globally. The locally led creation of new Amazonia Indigenous protected areas is one project supported by the artwork. “Titling Indigenous lands and designating new protected areas are crucial strategies to safeguard the vital Amazonia ecosystem,” said Christopher Jordan, Latin America Director for @rewild. Efforts of this collaboration are facilitated by Beeple Studios and #ArtintoAcres, an artist-run environmental initiative. Conservation partners for the Amazonia project include the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture, the Foundation for Scientific and Technological Enterprises, and key Brazilian federal government agencies: the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation, the Ministry of Indigenous Peoples, and the National Foundation for Indigenous Peoples.
