Supreme/GOODENOUGH. 06/05/2025 GOODENOUGH was a Japanese clothing brand established in 1990 by Hiroshi Fujiwara. Fujiwara has long been considered one of the most influential figures in global design culture. And although short-lived, GOODENOUGH played a critical role in the evolution of contemporary Japanese street fashion. A teenage punk-obsessive, Fujiwara traveled to London in the early 1980s to immerse himself in the music and culture. Yet upon his arrival, Malcolm McLaren insisted that London was “boring,” and instead encouraged Fujiwara to fly to New York, where hip-hop was beginning to migrate downtown. Fujiwara returned to Tokyo brimming with hip-hop records, DJing techniques and information – exposing Japan to hip-hop sounds for the first time and igniting a homegrown DJ scene seemingly overnight. GOODENOUGH was born from this cross-cultural exchange. Inspired by Stüssy and British label Anarchic Adjustment, Fujiwara and designer SK8THING brought together disparate influences (punk, hip-hop, BMX, skateboarding, western luxury fashion and American visual culture) with a refined sensibility for the burgeoning Japanese street fashion consumer. Fujiwara’s process made a transformative impact on the young people in his orbit – namely Jun Takahashi and Nigo, who’d go on to found UNDERCOVER and A Bathing Ape, respectively. Before establishing their own brands, Jun and Nigo opened the hugely influential Harajuku shop NOWHERE in 1993, with Fujiwara’s support and guidance. But by the late 1990s, as Japan’s street fashion scene was exploding, Fujiwara decided to cease GOODENOUGH operations, shifting his focus from helming a growing fashion company to running a comparatively small design studio. Supreme has worked with GOODENOUGH on a new collection for Spring 2025. The collection consists of an MA-1 Jacket, Patchwork Jacket, Sweater, Patchwork Shirt, Crushed Rayon Shirt, Thermal, S/S Top, Hooded Sweatshirt, Patchwork Pant, Military Pant, Short, two T-Shirts, 6-Panel, Camp Cap and Crusher. Available June 5th. Available in Asia June 7th.
