As a country between the United States and China, when shooting this series of photos, I imagined that they, in terms of political governance, handle the most advanced aspects of the East and the West in parallel along two lines. Instead of negating everything unidirectionally, this, I think, is a method worthy of reference for future global governance. So - called revolutionaries don‘t overthrow everything from the past. Instead, they should think more diligently and carefully about the past and future of the East and the West, from different temporal and spatial perspectives, to achieve a perfect, dynamic, balanced, and just - right existence. Therefore, during the shooting process, the Eastern - featured model and the Western - featured model I hired embodied this metaphor in their travels, battles, and exchanges.#chenman #guess

This situation occurred in Japan during the Meiji Restoration. Protection of Traditional Handicrafts Before the Meiji Restoration, Japan had a tradition of valuing handicrafts. Many handicraft techniques were introduced from China and then inherited and developed. During the Meiji Restoration, although Japan vigorously learned from the West, it did not neglect the protection of traditional handicrafts. The government recognized that traditional handicrafts were an important part of national culture. By encouraging folk craftsmen to teach apprentices and hold handicraft exhibitions, the government protected and passed on traditional handicraft techniques and the craftsman spirit. Policies of Learning from the West During the Meiji Restoration, Japan put forward policies such as "civilization and enlightenment" and "industrial promotion," learning comprehensively from the West. Economically, it introduced advanced Western technology and equipment to establish a modern industrial system. Politically, it imitated the West to establish a political system such as a constitutional monarchy. In terms of culture and education, it learned from Western educational systems and cultural concepts, sent students to study in the West, and translated Western works. As a result, Japan transformed from a traditional agricultural country to a modern industrial country in a short period. Through the Meiji Restoration, while achieving modernization by learning from the West, Japan well protected and inherited traditional culture including handicrafts, laying a solid foundation for Japan's modern development.
