“Gazing Ball (Farnese Hercules)” is a large sculpture from my Antiquity series. Farnese Hercules was originally made in the 4th century BC. A Roman copy was made in the early 4th century AD and found in 1546 in Rome. “Gazing Ball (Farnese Hercules)” was realized in plaster made from a mold of the Roman copy. I placed a blue glass gazing ball on Hercules’s shoulder to affirm the viewer and the sculpture. The ball and its reflection for me ends up representing absolutely everything that is and can be, all at once. “Gazing Ball (Farnese Hercules)” (2013) plaster and glass, 128 1/2 x 67 x 48 5/8 inches, 326.4 x 170.2 x 123.5 cm © Jeff Koons Edition of 3 plus 1 AP. Have you made the mold by yourself (your assistance) or could you use one from a gipsoteca?
