Arctic Sea Ice Day is July 15th, and we’re drawing attention to this remarkable frozen ocean ecosystem, the ice loss taking place, and how a shift to renewable energy can help reverse that trend. We’re counting down with key facts about Arctic sea ice from our chief climate scientist, Dr. Flavio Lehner. ❄️ Arctic Sea Ice Fact #10: The last 18 years have had the lowest 18 sea ice extents in the satellite record, according to NASA and the National Snow and Ice Data Center. The amount of old, thick sea ice is the lowest it has ever been. Despite the threats, it’s important to remember that it’s not too late to save Arctic sea ice. Studies show there is no tipping point. The ice will rebound if we work together now to shift away from fossil fuels, replacing them with renewable energy sources like solar and wind. Not only will this help reduce the carbon emissions that are causing the planet to warm and the sea ice to melt, it will also create jobs, strengthen the economy, and improve the overall environment and our health. #ArcticSeaIceDay #SaveOurSeaIce #arcticseaice #seaice #naturefacts #ecosystem #ecosystems #wildlifeconservation #natureconservation

From diapers to decades. How the years have flown by… 🐒❤️ From time to time, I find myself wondering where the years have taken us… how swiftly they’ve flown by. It feels like just yesterday my brother and I were toddlers, playing on the lawn without a care in the world — always with our sister Cindy by our side. From those early days to the way she looked out for us like a protective older sister, Cindy has always been part of my life. As the years passed and we grew up, she have always been there. We teased her a lot and played like wild things, pushing boundaries the way children do. And when we went too far, she’d discipline us just like a baboon mother will do in the wild with their young — a sharp little bite to put us in our place. I remember moments when I cried with tears running down my face after some “discipline” from her, and she’d just sit there quietly, watching me with soft eyes full of concern. You could tell she felt sorry. And all of a sudden she would start grooming us which is her way of saying sorry. She have some incredible emotional intelligence. Now, Cindy is almost 31 years old. She’s blind. Slower. Quieter. And the roles have shifted — now it’s our turn to look after her. 🫶 It’s hard to put into words what it feels like to watch someone you’ve known your whole life grow old — especially when they can’t be with us as long as we wish. But this is the gift and the heartbreak of loving animals. ❤️ they don’t stay forever. So we love them harder, deeper, while they’re here. After all, Cindy isn’t just a baboon. She’s part of the family. We don’t know how much time we have left with Cindy. But I do know we’ll treasure every single second with her, giving her the best care we can. So here’s a little shouout and a ‘thank you’ for a lifetime of love, my Sister Cindy. 🥰♥️🐒 @ci_ndy1994 #cindy #namibia #animals #monkeysofinstagram #baboon
