“It’s never been about what’s trendy.”   @kaiaventdeleon on her lifestyle. And her style style.   You’ll usually find the founder of @sincerelytommy_ and @che_brooklyn moving through her day in comfort. Most likely in jeans, a t-shirt or tank top, and a flat shoe. Intentionally effortless.  It’s the same way she approaches what she carries in her store: “It’s just about really liking the pieces.”   Kai and her son Che wear new Gap Summer essentials, with Kai in her own black Gap pants. “I want Che to navigate the world being grounded, moving with integrity, feeling loved.”   @kaiaventdeleon is a lifestyle creative and mom to son Che — two roles she approaches with both intention and joy. From the beginning, she knew she wanted to bring him up in the community she grew up in. “Raising a child in Bed-Stuy was always something I knew I wanted. It’s this neighborhood that represents community, family, legacy.”   It’s also why she chose to open her store @sincerelytommy_ there, along with its sister café, @che_brooklyn. Named after her son, naturally. “Fashion’s always been a huge part of my life.”   From an early age, @kaiaventdeleon looked to her parents’ and grandmother’s style for inspiration. She took weekend classes at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology, creating pieces she and her friends could wear — their way. For Kai, it’s never been about chasing trends; it’s about curating a personal style that complements her life. And that ethos is woven into her businesses today.   Kai started her shop @sincerelytommy_ 10 years ago, bringing her vision to her Bed-Stuy community. And recently, she added her café @che_brooklyn to enhance the destination spot. “I wanted a space that wasn’t only about clothing. The café, home goods, jewelry, events — it’s an all-encompassing lifestyle brand. A lifestyle that I live.”   We followed Kai around for the day, as part of our series celebrating artists within the Gap community.
