North Korea has officially opened its long-delayed Wonsan-Kalma beach resort — and yes, it now sits on what was once a missile testing site. 🏖️🚀 After six years of setbacks, the luxury seaside resort opened to domestic tourists on July 1, 2025. Built in Kim Jong Un’s hometown of Wonsan, it’s part of a larger effort to transform the coastal city into a tourism hotspot and breathe life into the nation’s struggling economy. But hold off on booking — the resort is currently only open to North Korean citizens, with no word on when (or if) international guests will be welcome. From launchpads to lounge chairs, Wonsan is attempting a major rebrand. Whether it becomes a genuine tourist escape or simply another tool of state propaganda remains to be seen.
