"작가님, 이 소설은 최악입니다." 악플이 아닙니다. 영화판 <전지적 독자 시점>의 시작이자, 주인공 김독자(안효섭)이 10년 넘게 애독한 소설 <멸망한 세계에서 살아남는 세 가지 방법>(멸살법)의 결말을 보고 작가에게 직접 보낸 감상평입니다. 원작 웹소설을 읽은 사람이라면 영화가 <멸살법>을 다루는 방식에 고개를 갸우뚱할지도 모르겠습니다. 웹소설 <전지적 독자 시점>에서 <멸살법>은 김독자를 살아가게 하는 유일한 친구 같은 존재였으니까요. 이 밖에도 영화 <전지적 독자 시점>에선 원작의 많은 설정과 내러티브가 단순화하고 제거됐습니다. 특히 '배후성'의 존재감이 크게 줄었죠. 성좌물인 웹소설을 바탕으로 만들었는데 영화에는 좀처럼 성좌의 캐릭터성이 드러나지 않습니다. 대신 '사람'이 또렷이 보입니다. 좋게 말하자면 김병우 감독의 개성을 담은, 뚝심 있는 각색이라고도 볼 수 있을 듯한데요. 이 과감한 비틀기가 관객들에게 어떻게 다가갈 지는 오는 7월 23일 개봉일에 지켜 봐야겠지만요. 시사회를 통해 먼저 공개된 영화 <전지적 독자 시점>의 리뷰가 궁금하다면, elle.co.kr과 스토리 링크를 확인하세요.
