Today Michael Wyetzner of Michielli + Wyetzner Architects joins AD in New York for an in-depth walking tour of Central Park. Everything in Central Park got there by considered choice, not by nature, and the park as we know it today is the result of a design competition held in the 1850s. From hidden through-roads to its calming bodies of water, join Michael as he walks you through why Central Park is the best-designed city park in the world. Revisit the whole tour at the link in our bio.

Lucy Gilliam, PhD, and Captain Arjen van der Veen are water people—it’s their life’s work. She is an environmental scientist; he founded a green freight shipping company. But water is also their home. Along with their 10-year-old son, Thor, they live on The Queen Bee, a 1908 flat bottom Groninger tjalk sailing boat, docked in a historic harbor in Rotterdam. Interior designer Cortney Bishop arrived at an empty lot beside a cherished South Carolina home—a place where vacations felt longer because of large social gatherings that spilled outdoors and out beneath the sun and moon. When it was time for a new generation to take over, the homeowners’ son finally saw the land for what it was: potential to restart the party. He and his wife bought the plot from his parents, had house plans drawn up by Cumulus Architects, and their family of six aimed to turn nothing into something. “This couple is young, they’re energetic, and they love to entertain. I knew they were going to have fun here,” says #ADPRODirectory designer Bishop, who worked hand in hand with both the architect and the builder, Sands Construction. Urban trees have the power to cool our cities during heatwaves. Here’s how it works: if you step outside during a heatwave, you’ll notice a significant difference in temperature between streets with tree cover and those with bare pavement exposed to the sun. That’s because trees provide shade and release moisture into the air, cooling their surroundings. In fact, studies show that #tree cover in cities can reduce air temperatures by up to 8°C and land surface temperatures by up to 12°C. As urban areas around the world face record-breaking heat, we must recognize trees as a natural solution to help mitigate the effects of heatwaves. #architectanddesign

This Friday, two Pritzker Prize-winning forces — Francesca Singer (SANAA) and Francis Kéré — are joining our monthly webinar session for a powerful conversation on how architecture can shape the way we learn: Learning by Space: The Architecture of Knowledge. From SANAA’s light-filled campus for Bocconi University to Kéré’s human-centered schools in Africa, their work reimagines space as a tool for knowledge. _project: New Bocconi University Campus _architecture: @sanaa_jimusho _location: Milan, Italy _images: @adrianomura

Get ready — @mvrdv is coming to Brazil to the Hunter International Forum! Founded in Rotterdam in 1993, the studio is globally recognized for its bold, research-driven projects that rethink how we design and experience cities. From stacked neighborhoods to vibrant urban interventions, MVRDV has never been afraid to challenge convention. This August, Cosimo Scotucci and Lorenzo Mattozzi will be in Brazil to represent the studio and give a talk at the Hunter International Forum. Titled “Transformations: The Architecture of Change”, their lecture dives into how architecture can become a powerful agent of urban transformation — and how this vision shapes MVRDV’s approach across scales and typologies. It’s a rare chance to hear from the team behind one of the world’s most forward-thinking studios — live, in São Paulo. _images: courtesy of MVRDV
