“I know the house is kooky,” Benny Blanco (@itsbennyblanco) says. But there’s nothing he likes less than a sterile home devoid of personality. Blanco chose the 1939-built LA dwelling primarily for its convenient location near his studio. He snapped up the pad in 2019 and made himself at home bit by bit, with the help of Rachel Leigh Ward and Dana M. Vitrano of @bonvivantinteriors and designer Keefe Butler of @studiobad, who describes his involvement in the house’s reimagining as more of a supporting role to Blanco’s creative lead. “The first time we visited it didn’t feel like anyone had ever really lived there and loved it and embraced it,” says Studio Manifold cofounder and co-director Morgan Novy of the 1986 John Pizzey home in the Yarra Valley she and her partner, Lachlan Cooper, were hired to carefully restore. Still, the 4,575-square-foot Oregon timber, stone, and glass abode designed by a protege of prominent midcentury Australian architect Alistair Knox held plenty of magic, not only within its sturdy walls but beyond them, to views of rolling bushland and vineyards. The owners, Andrew and Tiff Percy, had returned to their native Melbourne from Utah and “stumbled across this property an hour drive from the city, in the Yarra Valley, which is a wine region here that’s really beautiful,” says Cooper. Megs Senk (@megsnotplural), an advertising art director, and George Korsnick (@sleepy.soups), a software developer, had spent four years in Maine recalibrating their lives after years hustling in bigger cities. Then they leased the ground floor of a creaky historic structure in the center of town and got to work. They named it St. George Pizza (@st_george_pizza), after the river that runs through Warren—and right near their shop’s front door. What started as a fantasy, a place to simplify life and make things by hand, and a safety net beyond careers being demolished by AI, has quickly become a community cornerstone. Tour the space and read their story at the link in our bio. Photography by @tararicephoto; words by @zoesessums

The windcatchers of Yazd, or badgirs, are ancient Persian cooling towers developed over 1,000 years ago, with origins possibly dating back to the 6th century BCE. Designed to capture and channel wind into buildings, they provided natural ventilation in the desert climate. Built from mudbrick and often ornately decorated, they exemplify sustainable design and are now part of #Yazd’s UNESCO World Heritage recognition. 🎥: @history_mae #architectanddesign • #architecture #design #engineering #building #iran #persia #airconditioner
