1900年代初頭に日本に輸入されはじめた【吊り編み機】つりあみき🧵🪡Tsuri-amiki 吊り編み機とは、ニット生地を編み立てる古い編み機のこと。1960年代までは日本のニット産業の第一線で活躍をしてきたけれどそのあと大量生産、大量消費という時代の波が押し寄せてきて大量に作る事を重視した高速の編み機が主流になっていき、少ししか作る事ができない吊機は使われなくなっていき、姿を消していったと言われているよ。 そして吊機を稼働させる工場は世界的にみてもごくわずかなんだって。 吊機と現代の高速編み機の違いはというと💭🧵🪡 高速編み機が1時間に24m編める事に対して吊りあみ機が編めるのは1m。 1mしか編めない吊り編み機だけれど、ゆっくり編まれたスウェットは生地を編む時に糸に余計な力をかけなくて編み上がった生地も強制的に巻き取らないから、まるで手編みのようなあたたかい温もりと、独特の豊かな風合いをもっていて洗い混むほどに、柔らかさが実感できると言われているよ。1960年代中頃までのヴィンテージと呼ばれるスウェットシャツのほとんどにも吊ニットが使用されていて何十年もたった今でもファンの人を魅了しているのはこの特徴もあるからなのかもしれないと言われているよ💭 ただ、そんな吊り編み機式で今もなお日本で行っている工場は約3件くらいしか残っていないみたい。 そして吊り編み機は一台一台違う性格や個性があったり、その日の気温や湿度によっても機械の状態が変動もするためスイッチ１つで稼働ができる現代の機械と違い職人さんの熟練した技術や経験が必要とされているよ。今回はこの吊り編み機の素晴らしさ、伝統を守っていきたいと思い、一緒にスウェットやTシャツ作りを取り組ませていただいたよ🇯🇵❤️ The tsuri-amiki, first imported to Japan in the early 1900s, is an old-style knitting machine used to produce knit fabrics. Until the 1960s, it played a central role in Japan’s knitwear industry. However, as the era of mass production and mass consumption took hold, faster, high-output machines became the norm. Because loopwheel machines can only produce a small amount of fabric at a time, they gradually fell out of use and eventually disappeared from the mainstream. Today, only a handful of factories in the world still operate these machines. A modern machine can knit about 24 meters per hour. In contrast, a loopwheel machine produces just 1 meter in the same amount of time. But that 1 meter is special: because the fabric is knitted slowly, the yarn is never pulled or stressed unnecessarily. The finished fabric is not forcibly wound up either, allowing it to retain a hand-knitted feel, warmth, and a rich, distinctive texture. Over time, with repeated washing, it becomes even softer. Many vintage sweatshirts from the mid-1960s and earlier were made with loopwheel fabric, and it’s this very quality that continues to captivate fans even decades later. Today, only about three factories in Japan still use loopwheel machines.This time, we had the opportunity to collaborate on making sweatshirts and T-shirts, inspired by the beauty and tradition of the loopwheel knitting machine.
