July has been all about learning how to weed and hill the field🌿
The seedlings we planted in June have been growing steadily but so have the weeds around them! If we leave the weeds alone, they start stealing the nutrients and sunlight that are meant for the seedlings. So over a few days, I carefully cleared them out one by one.
Then, I also did some hilling to help support the roots and keep the plants stable
The day after I arrived in Niigata, I thought I’d take it easy and start work around 9am but it was already super hot and I was drenched in sweat!
From the next day, I started waking up at 4am, just like my farming teacher Mr. Oshima. It was so much cooler, and I learned that if I work in the early morning and again in the late afternoon, I can avoid the hottest hours of the day!
During the midday heat, I head to the sea or the river to cool off and relax!!
I’ve found the perfect summer routine 😆
So much fun~!!!!!
