We’d been watching a trio of young cheetah siblings, recently independent, still sticking together as they learned to navigate life on their own. For a while, it was peaceful. They lounged in the grass, played a little, stretched lazily under the sun.
But the energy started to shift.
A herd of impala was drawing closer, unknowingly stepping into the cheetahs’ range. You could feel the tension building. The impala grew uneasy and nervous. The cheetahs noticed. In an instant, the playful mood vanished. Their bodies dropped low. Eyes locked in. The hunt was on.
We moved our vehicle to give them space, unaware of how close the action was about to get.
Suddenly, one impala exploded into motion, sprinting straight toward us, full speed, leaping through the air. And behind it, a cheetah flying like a missile, locked on target.
It all happened so fast we barely had time to react. For a second, it truly felt like the impala was about to leap into our vehicle, with the cheetah catching it right on top of us. The blur of speed, the pounding hooves, the rush of wind it was chaos and awe all at once.
The whole chase lasted seconds, but we’ll be talking about that heart pounding moment forever.
I’ll be heading back later this month with a new group of guests, this trip is fully booked, but the adventure doesn’t stop there. Join us this September for the Great Migration one of the most breathtaking wildlife spectacles on Earth.
