Eat, Slay, Wear Blood Of 📸by @kritiwaliaphotography Drenched in the sanguine fluid of her latest kill, this lioness wears the evidence of her brutal trade like a grisly badge of honor. Per 100ml, just the blood obtained from a fresh kill contains 15-20g of hemoglobin, which translates to roughly 15-20g of protein, primarily amino acids for muscle repair and growth. Blood is about 80-90% water, making it highly hydrating for a predator hunting in arid regions where water is scarce. This hydration, combined with nutrients like iron (about 0.5mg per 100ml), sodium, potassium, and traces of vitamin B12, can sustain a predator when prey is their only source of irrigation. A liter of animal blood yields 80-100 kcal, offering quick energy. For predators, consuming blood from a fresh kill can be a lifeline, delivering critical hydration, protein and micronutrients to keep them going until they can quench themselves with a proper drink. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Nature Is Metal is powered by you! If there’s 15-20g of protein per 100ml of blood(that would be 60-80kcal) a liter can not only be 80-100kcal, the math ain’t mathing @natureismetal

Photo by @andy_mann | I recently experienced one of the most joyful moments of my career. While diving off Robinson Crusoe Island in Chile’s Juan Fernández Archipelago, I found myself surrounded by hundreds of endemic Juan Fernández fur seals. They were so curious and charismatic, and many came right up to my camera. Once hunted to the brink of extinction for their pelts, the seals have made a remarkable comeback thanks to marine protection efforts. Diving with them reminded me why I explore—to share the beauty and wonder of our oceans and protect them for generations to come. Head to the link in bio to learn more about my trip to Juan Fernández and efforts by the local community to expand marine protected areas. | @costasunglasses works just as hard to protect our waterways as they do to discover new ways to explore them. This World Oceans Day, they debut a new satin finish in the Untangled Collection—made with 97% recycled nets.

Buried in the Mesopotamian desert, undisturbed for over two millennia lay a hidden key to understanding one of the world’s oldest known civilizations. Near Basra in southern Iraq, archaeologists were excavating what seemed like unpromising desert mounds—until they uncovered the ancient city of Eridu, one of the foundational cities of the world’s earliest known civilization.
