Luck Be A Coney Tonight
📽 by @vitomaynez06
The crazy thing about this video is that there are people out there who try to capture something like this for years, only to come up short. You can count me as one of those people. This lucky guy points his camera at the window to record the bun and boom - instantly joins an elite group.
To me this looks like a juvenile red-tail, but I’ve been wrong about IDs before (about 8 million times) so the other possibility is a red shouldered hawk. Besides some differences in habitat and minor differences in diet, they hunt the same things, although a red tail is more likely to go for something big like a rabbit, which is why I leaned that way.
That said, hunting rabbits is not a regular occurrence for either of them, both species hunt smaller prey, and stack calories that way. Voles, mice chippers and squirrels are the bread and butter of these types of hunters, making the capture of this from the living room window just before returning to a spongebob marathon that much rarer.
