Collagen, the most abundant protein in our bodies, supports our skin, hair, nails, and joints. But as we age, our collagen production declines, and wrinkles and sagging can become consequences that many seek to prevent through supplements. Despite the $2 billion market for collagen supplements, evidence of their effectiveness remains limited. Though some studies suggest they have benefits, are there more reliable alternatives? as a cell biologist I know how cells make collagen, and I assure you that supplementing collagen CANNOT increase the bodies synthesis rate! A high percentage of collagen's amino acids are chemically modified AFTER protein synthesis, so they CANNOT be used for synthesis! Mechanistically it just can't work!!!

No. Collagen is made from protein. If you eat adequate protein you won’t require supplements. Eat fat, fish, meat and eggs. To prevent further deterioration of collagen, you need body identical hormones. Particularly over the age of 50.
