In 79 A.D., Mount Vesuvius buried Pompeii under ash in a matter of hours. Thousands perished, but thousands more may have survived. Their stories, once lost to time, are now reshaping what we know about the city. Nearly 2,000 years later, archaeologists are still uncovering clues not just about how Pompeii ended, but how life carried on beyond the disaster.
