“I’m against gay sex because it isn’t part of nature.” “It’s not natural”… I guess these 60,000 pound gray whales are out here rubbing their slinky sea snakes all over each other for the camera just to make a buck selling it on OnlyFins™️…Certainly couldn’t be a totally normal thing that’s part of nature right!? Jokes aside, homosexual behavior is a well-documented and natural part of the animal kingdom. Scientists have observed same-sex pairings, courtship, mating, and long-term bonds in over 1,500 species, including whales, dolphins, penguins, bonobos, giraffes, and lions. These behaviors aren’t just random, rather they often serve social, emotional, and even survival-related purposes within species. In the case of these Gray Whales, same-sex interactions are particularly common. Male gray whales have been seen engaging in mutual sexual behaviors that appear to strengthen social bonds or perhaps establish dominance. They also seem to just be doing it…for fun. In other words: homosexuality isn’t just natural, it’s a very real part of daily life in the ocean. Happy Pride Month! 🐋🌈

Males sparing without a female present is not gay sex. They are rehearsing their normal courtship behavior which often includes one female in heat with two or more male competitors. 🐋

When diseases damage our crucial organs, the best doctors can generally do is stop the harm from getting worse. But what if they could do more? After years of attempts, scientists are getting closer to tricking stem cells into repairing organs like the heart and lungs. If successful, this new research could completely change how doctors treat serious diseases. Learn more about these advancements at the link in bio. Photo by @joelsartore | In the past decade, giant panda numbers have risen by more than 15 percent (the current population estimate is 1,800), but this rare bear isn’t out of the woods yet. Traditional threats to pandas, such as poaching, appear to be declining, but disturbances including mining, hydropower, and tourism are on the rise. Thankfully, conservation efforts to tackle these threats and increase the panda population are under way. And these efforts and global awareness won’t just protect pandas; they will benefit many other rare species as well, including the endangered takin, golden monkey, red panda, and crested ibis.
