Photo by @joelsartore | Despite having a distinctive voice, African palm civets prefer to use scent rather than sound to communicate. Equipped with multiple scent glands, these civets will use a brown musk secreted from the primary gland on their abdomen to scent mark various objects in order to communicate with other civets. According to researchers, additional glands on the bottom of the chin and feet produce a floral or fruity scent. Photo taken in Libreville, Gabon.
