🏆 Winner of 500px BEST 10 Awards 2024 – Video of the Year 🧨 Fire, noise, and a whole lot of heart. "Come Experience the Festive Vibes of Chinese New Year in Fujian 来感受一下福建的年味!" by 池昌森 Changsen Chi captures the energy and chaos of traditional celebrations—from unexpected fire pile collapses to missed moments in the crowd. But even with the unpredictability, the spirit of Fujian’s folk culture shines bright. And this? Just the tip of the iceberg. 🎬 For the full video and more behind-the-scenes stories, read the blog. We stayed at John Lennon’s favorite hotel in Japan! 📍 Mampei Hotel, Karuizawa Built in 1894 and newly renovated in October 2024, the hotel is a blend of western and Japanese aesthetics. It’s also one of the hotels said to have inspired the Ghibli animation “The Wind Rises” (tbh it felt like we were staying in a Wes Anderson movie set 🎬) #japan #karuizawa #johnlennon #samishomexjapan

In Memoriam: Ansel Adams February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984 🌎 Every Day is Earth Day 🌍 “During the progress of my genes in this lifetime, I have come to realize the potential of greatness as well as the depths of depravity of the human species to which I belong. . . . I have known people of great wealth and compassion and others of equal wealth and power with no concept of the dedication to creative effort or the generosity of heart and spirit. I have known people of little means who have given so much to the world in the areas of art, science, and the simple situations of living, now and for the future. While only touching the fringes of environmental problems, I am happy to have been able to have had some small effect on the increasing awareness of the world situation through both my photographs and my vocal assertions. Far too many people think lightly of idealistic attitudes and do not understand that this idealism is not involuted, but directed outward for the benefit of the world and the people living upon it.” —A.A. 📷: Ansel Adams in Yosemite, 1973. Seven pieces of advice for capturing stunning photographs of foggy forests! With @more.than.running / The longer you immerse yourself in forests, the more you become attuned to captivating compositions. As a beginner, everything can appear enchanting, but with time, your artistic vision matures, and your compositions evolve into distinctive creations. At some point, articulating precisely why you’re drawn to particular landscapes, forests, or trees can be a challenge. While the criteria for your choices may be multifaceted, there’s a certain effortless quality when forests exude a specific mood. Besides practicing, here are seven other pieces of advice that can help you get started in forest photography: 1) The optimal time to capture atmospheric forest images is during the transition from fall to spring. These seasons often provide the moody ambiance and unique character you seek. 2) Rise early to take advantage of fog and low-hanging clouds. Monitor weather forecasts, particularly for rainy and overcast conditions, and venture into higher-altitude locations where the clouds envelop the landscape. 3) Explore forested areas in mountainous regions extensively. Forest roads can lead to hidden gems and unexpected compositions waiting to be discovered. 4) Return to your favorite locations for multiple visits. Over time, the evolving conditions and your changing perspective can yield fresh and captivating shots. 5) When entering a forest, adopt a progressive compositional strategy. Begin with wide-angle shots to capture the vast landscape, then transition to macro photography, focusing on individual elements like trees, branches, pine cones, and droplets. 6) Use a small to moderate aperture like f/8 to f/16 to achieve a deep depth of field. This ensures that both the foreground and background elements in your forest scene remain sharp and in focus. 7) In foggy conditions, you may want to use a slower shutter speed to capture the ethereal and soft look of the mist. If you have a tripod, consider using shutter speeds between 1/30th and 2 seconds for a dreamy effect. @nomadict: What other tips could you share to capture great forest images? 🌳📸⬇️
What an absolute privilege it is to live on a planet as special as Earth. Every single day should be earth day, but I want to share these images nonetheless. The ultimate goal with my photography is to help people discover how beautiful our world is and to hopefully inspire you to help conserve it. This is the only planet we have and it’s f*cking incredible.
