“It Felt Like I Knew You” 2012 by George Ferrandi @jumpstarlove

In this quiet intervention, artist George Ferrandi rides the NYC subway during rush hour, waits until the seats are full, and then leans her head onto a stranger’s shoulder - pretending to fall asleep. The project explores how physical space between strangers can be softened with intention, shifting from distant to intimate through small acts of vulnerability.
“I reshape it - from the stiff and guarded space between strangers to the soft and yielding space between friends,” Ferrandi says. “When the space palpably changes, and I completely feel like the stranger sitting next to me is my friend, I rest my head on that person’s shoulder and see what happens.”
Part tender fiction, part social experiment - a study in trust, discomfort, and proximity.
