C O L D P L A Y — MUSIC of the SPHERES
Live in Hong Kong, 2025
Coldplay is one of the first bands that I first got connected to international (Brit Rock) music back in the early 2000s while I was still a student. Having the chance to watch them live in my hometown, is emotionally mixed.
I was their devoted fan who got instantly addicted to their first 3 albums — ‘Parachutes’, ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’ & ‘X&Y’, all my good ‘companions’ during my prime years of studying. After ‘Viva La Vida’ & later albums, their slowly delved into new music endeavours and actively sought connection to a wider world with a universal humanistic approach.
By those years, my music radar has shifted back to Canto music (& others) & seldom got very excited by new albums from international bands. So our ‘world of spheres’ sort of slowly departed... Well, I guess it’s quite common for us to only stick to our favourite artists’ earlier albums, or, a period of their music that has a special irreplaceable place that denoted our memorable youth (good old/free times).
Yet, as we slowly grew up & entered into the adult world, things changed & we changed too. Our music taste might remain or might shift too. Our (once) favourite bands & singers, they have a growing cycle too. The world is not practically a place for everyone to stay the same forever. As time goes by, things will evolve. Some bands continue, some fade, some regroup, some quit. We hang on to some, we lose grip on some. But it doesn’t matter at the end of the day, coz good memory is still good memory.
To be honest, I wouldn’t put watching Coldplay concert as my ticked checklist, coz I know my dear memory of Coldplay’s music is already irreplaceable in my heart regardless of any chance of watching them live. Yet (!), a Coldplay concert at my hometown… who would resist that? :)
So, it’s still a fantastic night to watch them performing here in Hong Kong. It’s really like checking how an old friend is faring after all those years. It’s still a memorable night to experience the healing power of humanity & love. It really is.
Thank you again, Coldplay ❤️
