One of my favourite birds, the Rock Ptarmigan or Rjúpa in Icelandic. In the most pristine winter conditions, we came across this one at the edge of an ice covered canyon out in the highlands. It seemed to be looking down as if it knew of something beneath, perhaps a place to retreat into the rocks, or on the flip side a fox to run away from. Its always challenging to get shots of these birds, they are quite skittish. Using my 100-500 canon lens, I was able to create this photo series, something I’ve dreamed of for a long time! #ptarmigan #iceland
