I’m a taxidermist + my dogs are fed a prey model raw diet. As a result, my local Fish and Wildlife Department has me on speed dial so that any time a deer or elk is hit or poached or dies on county property, I can collect it to save taxpayer dollars in disposal fees. I once got a call about a deer who had, rather inexplicably, run headlong into the broad side of a 100-year-old barn at Mach F*ck and dropped dead on the spot. We had a state biologist run some tests cuz it was such an unusual death that we were concerned about CWD or other diseases that cause neurological damage. He came back clear, and was otherwise perfectly healthy. Bear we could figure is he was being chased by dogs or something and crashed into the barn while trying to escape. Point being: Deer do some pretty weird stuff sometimes when they’re in a panic, and it’s not always because there’s anything wrong with them aside from the simple fact that they are deer. 😂
