There is perhaps no subject more photographed than the human face, revealing a breadth of emotion and mystery. We explore some of the faces that feature in Spectacle, from movie stars and musicians to painters and clowns 💫 Marilyn Monroe stands illuminated in an image by @evearnoldphotographer, made at the press conference for The Prince and the Showgirl in 1956. In his 1954 capture, @wernerbischofestate depicts Frida Kahlo painting in her home in Coyoacán, Mexico City. @brucedavidsonphoto brings us a photo of The Supremes recording at the studios of Motown Records in Detroit, Michigan. 🔗 We are approaching the halfway point of the Square Print Sale. Summer is here 🇮🇸 Today marks the first day of summer in Iceland, a holiday celebrated around the country. We have had some beautiful clear days this week, many of which I’ve spent up on the Vatnajökull ice cap in what might not look like summer, but to me just seeing the sun and watching the landscape slowly come back to life is an exciting sign of what’s to come. I can’t wait to see nature flourish into its most vibrant and colourful form once again, especially after a full season of intense winter missions. The highlands await…

Visuals from the North Pole. Saying goodbye to the sun, we ventured into the blue hour with @ponant to reach 90°N. With a vast expanse of Arctic sea ice in all directions, our ship Le Commandant Charcot worked her way through open leads in the ice to the top of the world. You could feel the remoteness exponentially rising with every degree of latitude. The marginal ice zone at the edge of the Arctic sea ice pack was home to an abundance of wildlife, with Polar Bears roaming over the newly formed pancake ice. It was one of the most intense and incredible sights I’ve ever witnessed. From the North Pole we headed south to Greenland, exploring the fjord system of Scoresbysund. The contrasts from a world of endless sea ice into towering mountains and icebergs gave me a powerful sense of the diversity of nature in the Arctic. #exploration #ponant #lecommandantcharcot @lecommandantcharcot
