// half-frame ramblings // ( no, these are not fuji x-half test shots 🙃) I first tried half-frame film camera over a decade ago, but it wasn’t until the Ektar H35/H35N and Pentax 17 emerged in recent years that I became a regular user. People choose half-frame cameras for various reasons: some aim to save on rising film costs, some explore the narrative duality of images conceptually (whether it’s planned or random), and many appreciate the compact and lightweight design for casual photography. Most modern users, especially those active on social media, rarely print photos unless for specific reasons (e.g., print selling, exhibitions, for personal use), making the size and resolution of half-frame images less important since they’re mainly shared online (hmm and vertical!). Thus, half-frame cameras can have a role in nowadays/future photography. For me, shooting with a half-frame camera meets the above needs. While the focal length and aperture may not be my usual preference, using a half-frame as a secondary or tertiary option feels carefree and ‘practical’ (as in I could use a single film roll to ‘summarise’ a certain period of time/happenings, purely for future memory purpose). 📷 Ektar H35N #ektarh35n 🎞️ Kodak Ultramax 400 #kodakultramax400 🧪 @showa_f 2025.04-05 Hong Kong
