哈勃太空望远镜

NGC 4237 is classified as a "flocculent" spiral galaxy. This means its spiral arms look sort of fluffy! They're patchy and almost indistinguishable from each other. About 60 million light-years from Earth, this galaxy resides in the constellation Coma Berenices. Find more Hubble views at the link in our bio! Image description: A spiral galaxy fills the image. Its bright core is surrounded by small, feathery arms laced through with dark brown dust and bright blue patches of stars. Image credit: ESA/Hubble & NASA, P. Have you ever seen an ermine before? 🤍🤎 In summer the ermine is brown, with a whitish throat, chest, and belly. In colder climates the winter coat is white, except for the black tail tip. In moderately cold climates the fur becomes only partly white! Beautiful shots by @markian.b Information from Brittanica

Many cannabis users swear by the drug’s capacity for pain relief but experts say the evidence for it is “questionable”—and it may just be the placebo effect. It may seem like it doesn’t matter whether the positive results people experience in cannabis trials derive from taking the drug or thinking they did, as long as their pain is diminished. However, researchers say that isn't the case. “It’s not enough to know that something is working. We need to know why it is working to best help patients,” says Karin Jensen, who spearheaded the study and is a researcher in the pain neuroimaging lab at Sweden’s Karolinska Institute. Could the perceived benefits be more about expectation than the drug itself? Find out more at the link in bio. Photo illustration by Kurt Mutchler

Bats have extraordinary hearing, navigating the world by listening to the sound waves of their own calls bouncing off nearby objects. But did you know that fringe-lipped bats also listen to frog and toad mating calls to help them hunt? A skill learned through trial and error, this species can even tell which toads are safe to eat and which are toxic. Learn more about fringe-lipped bats and their impressive ears at the link in bio.
