Three color palettes that use rich greens and deep blues to evoke the raw beauty of the wild in your nature photography! With @shaazjung / These images by @shaazjung offer a captivating glimpse into the wilderness. Shaaz Jung crafts visual stories that blend thrilling encounters with natural mystery, using vibrant greens and deep blues to evoke an immersive atmosphere. Below, we explore three of his palettes to inspire your editing style! 1) In image one, the lime green (A5D154) and forest green (3A6B29) create a sense of vibrant life, while the charcoal (0F0F10) adds contrast and depth. The rich olive (5E7B45) and emerald (1D4A19) reinforce the natural, camouflaged feel, reminiscent of a hidden gaze in dense foliage. As @shaazjung describes regarding image one, “That feeling, when you know you’re not alone. A parting of leaves that reveals a pair of eyes.” Green, often associated with nature and growth, here symbolizes the wild’s alertness and hidden presence (Kaya & Epps, 2004). This palette evokes a sense of anticipation and the raw beauty of the jungle. 2) Image eight (the lighter of the two blue-toned owl images) features a cool blue palette. The twilight blue (506D8A) and steel blue (3C506C) form a mysterious base, while the deep indigo (212E3B) adds depth. The warm amber of the owl’s eyes (FFB400) provides contrast, and the dark brown (3E2E20) of the branch grounds the composition. Blue hues are often associated with tranquility, mystery, and depth, and the contrast with warm yellow or orange eyes creates a focal point of intrigue, embodying the nocturnal world and its quiet intensity (Elliot et al., 2007). This palette feels otherworldly, calm, and contemplative. 3) Image nine presents the same scene with a stronger emphasis on cooler tones. Midnight blue (263C53) and intense navy (1F3045) set a moody atmosphere, while near-black blue (1A2B3D) adds depth. The vivid yellow-orange eyes (FFB400) pierce through the darkness as a striking contrast. This palette conveys power and depth, enhancing the mysterious quality of the image. @nomadict: What are your thoughts on these captivating palettes by @shaazjung? 🎨

Four principles to capture the vastness of grand landscapes in your photos! With @joshua.mallett - Winner Best of the Week 38 at #nomadict 2024 / “I captured my winning photo (pic. 1) just a few hours after arriving in Pokhara. The bus pulled in much earlier than expected, around 3:30 am, so I had some time before I could check into my hostel. I spent those early hours by Phewa Lake, watching the sunrise in solitude. Though the sunrise was stunning and peaceful, exhaustion soon set in, and I made my way to the hostel. Still too early to check in, they invited me to chill on the rooftop, where the incredible mountain views left me in awe. 1) I used my telephoto lens to capture the mountains as the morning light played on them. I spotted a watchtower perfectly aligned with Machapuchare (‘Fishtail Mountain’) in the background, creating an irresistible scene. The telephoto lens allowed me to frame the foreground against the background, expanding composition possibilities.  2) In this shot, I noticed the watchtower and the peak of Fishtail Mountain, so I moved around until I positioned the peak perfectly in the center. In post-production, I applied the rule of thirds to crop the image, leaving enough negative space above the mountains to balance with the fog below, giving the image a sense of openness and depth. 3) I chose blue as the dominant color. I thought it would match the overall calmness of the image, and I enhanced it through split toning while desaturating most other colors. This step helped me bring out the natural hues, create a cohesive look,  and convey the scale and atmosphere of the landscape, making it feel even more expansive and unified. 4) In addition, masking also plays a crucial role in conveying the vastness of a landscape. This technique allows me to shape my vision by selectively brightening or darkening areas, guiding the eye for added emphasis. It enhances my subjects while reducing distractions.” You can read the original article with @joshua.mallett by visiting the link in our bio!
