Seven photography spots in Madagascar to explore during your next adventure! With @wanderskyy / “The first photo in this series is a drone shot I took at sunrise at the Avenue of the Baobabs. My mother is originally from Madagascar, but she has never had the opportunity to explore this spot. So we set out to change that. Together, we visited some of the country’s most breathtaking locations, and below I share with you my top 7 for your next adventure! 1) Avenue of the Baobabs - see pics 1, 2, and 3 At the Avenue of the Baobabs, massive Grandidier’s baobabs line a dusty track, glowing at sunrise and sunset. These ancient trees feel almost alive, and when locals or zebu carts pass by, the scene tells a powerful story. 2) Antsianitia - see pics 4, 6, and 6 In Antsianitia, mangroves, estuaries, and dry forests create a peaceful, textured landscape. Traditional fishing scenes and river-mouth villages offer many opportunities for portraits and aerial shots. 3) Belo-sur-Mer - see pics 7, 8, and 9 Belo-sur-Mer is a small, quiet village by the sea. You’ll see old wooden boats, salt flats, and bright blue lagoons. Boatbuilders work here, keeping an old craft alive. 4) Mahajunga - see pics 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 Mahajunga is a lively coastal town with old colonial buildings showing their age. You’ll find a baobab by the water, colorful markets, and lots of character all around. 5) Tritriva Lake - see pics 15 and 16 Tritriva Lake is a deep blue crater surrounded by pine trees and rocky cliffs. In the morning, the colors are bright and the water is calm, perfect for reflections. 6) Cirque Rouge - see pic. 17 Cirque Rouge is like another world. The jagged red and orange rock formations shine with the golden light. The bright colors stand out against the blue sky, making for great photos. 7) Stone Forest - see pics 18 and 19 Tsingy de Bemaraha’s jagged limestone pinnacles create a prehistoric, adventurous landscape. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that offers suspension bridges, caves, and hanging roots!” @nomadict: Which of these spots would you visit first? 📸

Four principles to capture the vastness of grand landscapes in your photos! With @joshua.mallett - Winner Best of the Week 38 at #nomadict 2024 / “I captured my winning photo (pic. 1) just a few hours after arriving in Pokhara. The bus pulled in much earlier than expected, around 3:30 am, so I had some time before I could check into my hostel. I spent those early hours by Phewa Lake, watching the sunrise in solitude. Though the sunrise was stunning and peaceful, exhaustion soon set in, and I made my way to the hostel. Still too early to check in, they invited me to chill on the rooftop, where the incredible mountain views left me in awe. 1) I used my telephoto lens to capture the mountains as the morning light played on them. I spotted a watchtower perfectly aligned with Machapuchare (‘Fishtail Mountain’) in the background, creating an irresistible scene. The telephoto lens allowed me to frame the foreground against the background, expanding composition possibilities.  2) In this shot, I noticed the watchtower and the peak of Fishtail Mountain, so I moved around until I positioned the peak perfectly in the center. In post-production, I applied the rule of thirds to crop the image, leaving enough negative space above the mountains to balance with the fog below, giving the image a sense of openness and depth. 3) I chose blue as the dominant color. I thought it would match the overall calmness of the image, and I enhanced it through split toning while desaturating most other colors. This step helped me bring out the natural hues, create a cohesive look,  and convey the scale and atmosphere of the landscape, making it feel even more expansive and unified. 4) In addition, masking also plays a crucial role in conveying the vastness of a landscape. This technique allows me to shape my vision by selectively brightening or darkening areas, guiding the eye for added emphasis. It enhances my subjects while reducing distractions.” You can read the original article with @joshua.mallett by visiting the link in our bio!
