Sour hiking snacks are my absolute favorite! 🫐🍃 TRAIL INFO 🌲 Hiking trail: Wallace Falls Trail (also referred to as “Woody Trail”) 🌲 Location: Wallace Falls State Park - Gold Bar, Washington 🌲 Day use fee: $10 per vehicle (one-day Discover Pass) 🌲 Mileage: 1.8 miles to Lower Falls, 2.1 miles to Middle Falls, and 2.75 miles to Upper Falls (one way) 🌲 Elevation gain: 1,300 feet* 🌲 Difficulty: easy-moderate* 🌲 Family-friendly: yes, if you only hike to Middle Falls 🌲 Pets: allowed but must be leashed 🌲 Crowds: can get busy, best hiked on a weekday or arrive at the trailhead early ⠀ *A lot of the elevation gain occurs between Middle and Upper Falls, so turn around at Middle Falls if you want an easier & shorter hike. ⠀ Wallace Falls State Park has amazing facilities including flush toilets, picnic areas, a campground, potable water, trash & recycling bins, and a large parking lot. In saying that, be respectful if you visit and make sure to pack out all of your trash. Midday light, it happens to all landscape photographers! It’s hard to use the strong midday light for anything, but here is a collection where I photographed outside the golden hour with predominantly blue skies. A few suggestions on what to do with such weather. Avoid including the sky and utilise backlighting when photographing foliage in mountainous areas, use a polarising filter to darken the skies, convert to black and white, avoid the harshest midday light and shoot closer to the golden hour, use reflected light in canyons, benefit from colours in the landscape that works well with blue, take a break ;) I have an entire chapter about midday light and one about colour theory in my ebook about light in landscape photography. Check it out if you want to learn more about light and struggle with certain types of light.
