In one of the world’s hottest places, farmers are seizing an unlikely opportunity for reinvention. The small Indian city of Gangapur has seen a boom in the manufacture of small, colorful ice cream trucks called tempos. As more of its residents are abandoning farming in the dry and often drought-stricken surrounding region, they're turning to the sale of ice cream. The highly alkaline lake in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley hosts microbes responsible for its striking red and pink hues, as seen in this image by Michel and Christine Denis-Huot. When the water evaporates during the dry season, the dissolved minerals crystallize into mesmerizing patterns. “Lake Magadi’s mineral deposits create a spectacle of incredible shapes: lacelike spirals, shells, and whirls. The new 2.5x and 6x zoom lenses on the #DJIMavic4Pro have completely changed how I approach aerial photography... Instead of just capturing the bigger picture, I’m now isolating smaller stories within the landscape - details, patterns, and human moments I never could’ve framed like this before. And the image quality at 6x? Genuinely wild for a drone. This recent shoot in Vietnam was the first time I really put the zoom to work, and it’s safe to say I’ll be chasing shots like this for the rest of 2025. I absolutely love photographing from a drone. Getting that Birds Eye view makes a massive difference! You do still need to be 100% aware of your compositions. This can be extra hard when you only have a remote control you’re basing your compositions on and can’t see it with your own eyes. But what I do is already looking for a subject, lines, leading lines, geometry, patterns, repeating patterns, and with the newer drones I also introduce perspective compression. Alt hide compositional tools are some I cover in my ebooks on composition in landscape photography. So if you struggle with composition they are for you!
